Ira reclaims anger as a source of power, protection, and defiance against control. Wrath is often seen as reckless, but here, it is a deliberate refusal to be diminished. Inspired by the story of Lilith (who rejected submission and was demonized for it), this piece aligns her with Black women, whose justified anger is often met with fear and punishment rather than recognition of its necessity.
The dragon that wraps around her is an extension of herself— a creature that breathes fire and cannot be easily controlled, but knows when to use its power. She embodies a blend of soft resilience and unwavering strength in her elegant, firm stance.
"7" is a reimagining of the Seven Deadly Sins through the lens of Black womanhood, race, and femininity— transforming them from moral failings into acts of self-preservation, autonomy, and reclamation.
This series challenges the way Black women are denied the right to anger, indulgence, pride, and desire, reframing these "sins" as necessary virtues- pathways to self-awareness, freedom, and intentional living.
Each piece serves as a space where Black women can exist beyond control, expectation, or justification.
