Invidia shifts the narrative from Envy as a trap, to Envy as enlightening. What if Envy isn’t about what others have, but about the parts of ourselves we have yet to claim?
Traditionally, Envy is viewed as path that leads to resentment and comparison. Here, Envy is reframed as a tool for self-reflection on what our desires, insecurities, and aspirations reveal about ourselves. Instead of a passive, self-defeating emotion, Envy can bring growth and self-awareness.
Envy isn’t just about looking at others: it’s about truly seeing ourselves. While she is “faceless” in reality, her reflection shows full identity, symbolizing the shift from comparison to self-actualization.
"7" is a reimagining of the Seven Deadly Sins through the lens of Black womanhood, race, and femininity— transforming them from moral failings into acts of self-preservation, autonomy, and reclamation.
This series challenges the way Black women are denied the right to anger, indulgence, pride, and desire, reframing these "sins" as necessary virtues- pathways to self-awareness, freedom, and intentional living.
Each piece serves as a space where Black women can exist beyond control, expectation, or justification.
